Scottish Head Girls At Conference In Aberdeen

Head girls from girls’ schools across Scotland were in Aberdeen last weekend (Saturday 12 October 2009) to hear about leadership and achievement from one of the country’s top businesswomen.

Susan Rice, managing director of Lloyds Banking Group, was guest speaker at the annual conference of head girls of the Scottish Girls’ School Association, Head girls, their deputies and a number of senior prefects from the following schools attended the day long conference – St Margaret’s in Aberdeen, St Margaret’s in Edinburgh, St George’s School for Girls, Mary Erskine School, also both Edinburgh, Craigholme, Fernhill, both Glasgow and Kilgraston in Perthshire.

As well as the guest lecture from Mrs Rice, there was a number of team building events for the girls, along with workshops on the year ahead and leadership

Anne Everest, head teacher of St Margaret’s and the current secretary of the Girls’ School Association, Scotland, said that the Aberdeen school was honoured to have hosted this year’s conference.

“Single sex schools provide a very special environment for teaching and learning. Through acknowledging that boys and girls not only tend to mature differently, but also learn differently, we can provide girl-centred strategies to build our pupils’ confidence and ensure a great learning experience for them,” she said.

“This conference provided an opportunity for head girls from Scotland’s all girl schools to share their experiences as well as giving the girls an opportunity to hear from one of the country’s top businesswomen. We were delighted to have attracted such a high calibre speaker as Mrs Rice She was an inspiration to the girls attending the event.”

The conference took place on Saturday, September 12 from 10am to 4pm.
