Exercise-loving pupils at St Margaret’s School will be put through their paces this afternoon (Thursday 5 February 2009) – at a PE class with a difference.
Fourth and fifth years from St Margaret’s School for Girls will take part in an exercise session run by British Military Fitness.
This is the first time that instructors from the BMF, which is the UK’s largest outdoor fitness provider, have taken a class in a Scottish school.
Around 20 girls aged 14 and 15 will take part in the session which will include running, circuit activities such as press ups, sit up and squats, as well as team challenges and relays.
Georgeana Parker, head of PE at St Margaret’’s, says the girls are looking forward to taking part in the classes.
“This is a fantastic event for the school to be hosting. The British Military Fitness are well known across the country and their style of fitness is becoming increasingly popular,” she said.
“Sport plays such an important part of life at St Margaret’s and pride ourselves on the range of activities which we offer. Whether competing at regional or national level or purely trying to keep fit, our girls are keen that exercise be part of their school day.
“The beauty of the BMF classes is that they cater for all levels of ability so I know that ever girl taking part will enjoy and, benefit from, today’s class.”
The BMF classes are run by serving or former members of the armed forces with recognised training qualifications. It currently has 9,000 members with workouts in 61 classes across the UK, including Aberdeen’s Duthie Park.
