Just for Schools Training Camp

Just for Schools Training Camp

As the St Margaret’s Show Jumping team won the 80cm and 90cm league in the ‘Just for Schools’ competition, our 90cm team was invited to a ‘Just for Schools’ training camp at Arena UK, Grantham. Catherine, one of our competitors, tells us about the camp:

“Before any riding started we had a session with a master saddler and saddle fitter to assess if our saddles fit accurately. We had a session on strength and conditioning where we learnt important exercises focused on our individual strengths and weaknesses, as well as having psychology sessions where we learnt about the "CHIMP" and the effect of bottling up our emotions. This topic was very interesting and interactive. Safeguarding and anti-doping were other sessions which were important to learn about within the sport and learning about different anti-doping rules were both eye-opening and surprising.

We were lucky enough to have training sessions with some top dressage and show jumping instructors where we worked on technical exercises to help us within a course of jumps, giving us each some goals to improve on certain aspects of our riding. This was a fabulous opportunity to be involved with those who work at international level within the sport. This was a wonderful opportunity for the team and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Good luck to the team who are competing tomorrow!
