Speech Day 2022

The summer term at St Margaret’s is always a busy one, and this year was no exception, with the return of activities and trips at home and abroad, and our first in-person nursery concert, 1 - 4 Junior celebration and speech day for three years. It was quite wonderful to be together again for this event. Speech day was a time to reflect on the values of St Margaret’s: respect, community, equality, hard work and ambition. These values have been paramount in guiding us through the challenging years of the pandemic, enabling us to face those challenges head on together. Supporting one another and growing together is the bedrock of our school and the St Margaret’s community.

Our guest speaker at Speech Day, former pupil Professor Rebecca Wallace, referred to this as she spoke about her experience of leaving St Margaret’s yet always feeling a part of it. “Growing apart doesn’t change the fact that for a long time we grew side by side.” When addressing our leavers, she drew on the words of Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh, when he said “You’re braver than you believe; you are stronger than you seem and you’re smarter than you think.” In addition to Professor Wallace’s wonderfully inspiring words, we were treated to a joyful and uplifting concert, culminating in the whole school song ‘We Stand Together’, composed by Ms Brown; it was a fitting end to our speech day celebration
