Our resultsThe aim of St Margaret’s is to encourage every girl to achieve her full potential. Girls and staff strive for academic excellence. All girls are expected to do their best, and to gain the qualifications in public examinations which are commensurate with their talents. St Margaret's is recognised as one of the top academic schools in Scotland. In 2010 the pupils from St Margaret’s School for Girls in Aberdeen have sustained a 90% pass rate for the third year running – with 70% of passes at A and B level. This year’s Standard Grade pass rate is 99% at grades 1 – 3, a further improvement on the school’s 2009 results. Almost two-thirds of Standard Grade results were in the top band, while over 80% of fourth year girls achieved A grade at Intermediate Two. There has also been a 90% pass rate (pre-appeals), at Higher for the third year running. Four sixth year girls and four fifth year girls achieved straight As. Seven fourth year girls achieved band 1 passes in all of their Standard Grades. Caitlin McHardy was one of the eight senior pupils who achieved straight As, gaining top grades in her five Highers – English, Mathematics, French, German, and Physics. (comma after German) The 16-year-old, who has just returned from a four week school exchange to Australia, will be a senior prefect next year. She will embark on a Duke of Edinburgh gold expedition next week. She said: “I am absolutely thrilled with my results. I have always wanted to go to St Andrews University to study maths or engineering and my grades will help make this possible. “ Dr Julie Land, who is set to take up the post as head teacher later this month, said she is delighted with such strong results. “This is a fantastic achievement and is a great reward for all the hard work and commitment which our girls have shown over the last academic year,” she said. “Our teaching staff should also be recognised for all the dedication, support and inspiration they have shown the girls, giving them the best preparation for taking their exams. “Relatively speaking, we are a fairly small school but all our pupils and staff have big ambitions and this is reflected in the strength of our exam results.” |
