“Over the Tall Ships weekend, I had the fantastic opportunity to support Mearns & Gill with the coordination of the private deck hires – and what an unforgettable experience it was. As an Event Management student at Robert Gordon University, I’m currently building on one of my modules which is titled as Industry Experience Portfolio, which allows me to gain hands-on insight into the events industry. Over the past year, I’ve worked with a range of companies, and Mearns & Gill have been incredibly supportive, offering me valuable experience that has helped me grow both my confidence and skill set. During the Tall Ships event, I worked closely with the team, including Victoria Howie and her staff at Hudsons Catering, who ensured everything ran smoothly with the catering. It was a brilliant chance to be part of a large-scale event and to observe the seamless collaboration between suppliers and event professionals. The experience truly confirmed my passion for events, and I came away inspired by the people I worked alongside.
Looking ahead, I’m continuing to build my portfolio with the goal of gaining experience across a variety of event types, and ultimately hope to pursue a career in large-scale corporate event coordination after graduation. I intend to continue supporting Mearns & Gill with their events and would love to undertake an internship with them during my third year to further develop my skills and industry understanding.”
