Murray Music Competition

On Tuesday evening, we were delighted to hold the annual Murray Competition. This competition is open to girls working at Grade 4 - 5 level and gives them the chance to perform in front of an audience and a panel of expert judges.

This year’s competitors were Katie (piano), Lena (piano), Penny (violin), and Chloe (piano). All four girls performed with confidence and skill, and the audience thoroughly enjoyed hearing their pieces.

Our judges for the evening were Mr Andy Bruce and Mr Alan Haggart, who praised the high standard of performances and commented on the musical expression and technique shown by each performer.

Congratulations to Chloe who was announced as the winner of this year’s competition. She will receive the Murray Shield at Speech Day. A big well done to all the girls who took part – they made the evening a real celebration of musical talent and hard work.

Music at St Margaret’s

Music plays a key role in life at St Margaret’s, with opportunities for girls of all ages and abilities to develop their talents in a supportive and inspiring environment. The school’s purpose-built music department includes teaching and practice rooms as well as a large open space for rehearsals and informal performances.

From trying out instruments and exploring music technology in the early years to achieving National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher qualifications in the senior school, music at St Margaret’s is a journey of creativity and growth. Girls regularly perform in school events such as St Margaret’s Day, the Carol Service and Speech Day, as well as concerts and charity events within the community and overseas on music tours.

With three annual music competitions and a wide range of co-curricular opportunities, St Margaret’s continues to nurture a love of music that lasts a lifetime.
